MORE – Moving from activity for God to intimacy with God – 5
The focus in the SHIFTS up until this point have been on verse 37 of Matthew 22, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ Quite rightly so, because verse 37 contains the greatest or first and foremost command. But if we are going to experience the abundant life, we can’t ignore or neglect verse 39, which contains the second command, which is like the first and flows from it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
God created us to be in relationship, not just with Him but also with others. Those who have the abundant life, the life of MORE, don’t do it alone. In fact, they can’t do it alone. You simply cannot access the deepest levels of intimacy with God unless you open your life to others in community. It is not good, it is not healthy, it is not productive for human beings to be alone. If you are, and you want to experience a life that is full, that is rich and satisfying, then you have got to make a SHIFT in this area.
