One Bible teacher said this about the cross: It rests on the time line of human history like a compelling diamond. Its tragedy summons all sufferers. Its absurdity attracts all critics. Its hope lures all searchers. What an incredible piece of wood! History has idolised it and despised it. Gold plated it and burnt it, worn it and trashed it. History has done everything to it but ignore it. That is the one option that the cross does not offer.

No one can ignore it! But is it the cross that stirs the hearts and emotions of men, or the one who died upon it?

Is it the cross that incurs the wrath of some and the praise of others, or is it the message of a crucified carpenter who claimed that He was God in human flesh and had come to this world that through His sacrifice men, women and children might be reconciled to God?
