God is… Truth – Part 4
Over the last three weeks in our series, “God is…”, we’ve learnt that God is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and immutable. Because we’re in a church and I’m a pastor I don’t need to explain to you that I’m talking about the God of the Bible, you’ll automatically assume that. But, if I was out there in the world, I’d have to clarify that the attributes I’ve mentioned and those that remain can exclusively be applied to the One true God. In fact, the need to point that out might cause me to home in on a particular perfection, truth. God is…TRUTH, or God (i.e., the God of the Bible) is…TRUE.
That is an exclusivity claim. It’s an assertion that there is only one true God and that by implication, all other god’s are false. As a result, it is inherently offensive and people can find it difficult to process. How do we apply the reality of this perfection to our lives as Christians, and how do we help those who have not yet trusted Christ to understand and accept the claims of Scripture concerning truth?
