SBC is an evangelical Christian church committed to the Gospel of Christ. We love Jesus, we love people, and we love to study the Bible.

Our Heritage
What We Believe

heritage Our Heritage

SBC was started by church-planting missionaries with Biblical Ministries Worldwide www.biblicalministries.org in the late nineteen-eighties. Our first meetings took place in a little hall in Rivonia. From there we moved to Norscot Manor, and in 1995 eventually bought property in Douglasdale where our church buildings presently stand. In 2005 SBC welcomed our first full-time South African national pastor, Wayne Gordon, who received his training from SBC's Bible Training Program. Since then, we have increased our full time pastoral team, as well as sent out locally trained pastors and missionaries.

believe What We Believe

We uphold seven core beliefs as essential to Christianity. These beliefs relate to God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, humanity, salvation, and the end of time.

  1. We believe that all the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired of God, and they are without error in the original writings, and they are the supreme and final authority for faith and life.
  2. We believe in one God, Creator and sustainer of the universe, Who is eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, His death to pay the penalty for everyone's sins, His bodily resurrection, His exaltation at God's right hand, and His personal, imminent, pre-tribulation and pre-millennial return.
  4. We believe that all have sinned and are therefore guilty before God and are under His condemnation.
  5. We believe that all who by faith receive Jesus Christ are then born again of the Holy Spirit, therefore children of God and eternally saved, and that the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer to enlighten, guide, and enable the believer in life, testimony, and service. We believe that God answers the prayers of His people and meets their needs according to His purpose.
  6. We believe that God gives spiritual gifts to all believers for the building up of the body of Christ. However, the miraculous sign-gifts of the Spirit, such as tongues and healings, were limited to the early church.
  7. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Glory and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in hell.

pastors Pastors

SBC is served by a group of elders, two of whom serve full-time

Pastor Wayne Gordon

Pastor Wayne trusted Christ as his Saviour in his first year of medical school in 1989. He graduated 5 years later, in 1994. Medical school is where he met his wife, Lindy, who was in the same class. They were married in December of 1994. They have three children, Rebekah, Jessica, and Matthew. Pastor Wayne did his theological training through the local church and a program known as CMI (Church Ministries Institute). This has developed into what is today known as BBISA (Berean Bible Institute of South Africa). He completed his undergraduate studies in 2006, earning a BTh degree. He has been a pastor at Sandton Bible Church since 2003 and an elder since 1999.

Pastor Garth Lombard

Pastor Garth was dating his wife Carol when both of them became believers in Jesus Christ on the same day. Very early in his new relationship with Jesus, Garth had a real desire to serve Christ and be used by Him. He studied through SBC’s theological training program, earning a BTh. degree in the process. Garth and Carol served with Word of Life Fellowship as local missionaries for 5 years, during which time they pioneered youth ministry camps as well as a daily radio program. In 2008, Garth accepted the call to come on staff at Sandton Bible Church, his spiritual home since 1997. Garth and Carol have three children.

giving Giving

Each of us is called to worship God with our entire life, including our time, talents and resources. Sharing those resources is an important way to worship the Giver of all good things. We pledge to be good stewards of your gifts, taking great care in how we manage and track the resources entrusted to us.
